چکیده
The onset of convection in a rotating plane layer due to vertical temperature gradient is studied this paper. background stratification modulated by lateral variations and stable aimed at understating the Earth's outer core subject thermal core–mantle interaction. At top boundary, sinusoidal Gaussian are imposed apart from reference case isothermal condition used classical Rayleigh–Benard convection. additional modulating conditions break top–bottom flow symmetry leading localization asymmetry that exhibit modified temporal dynamics unlike cells. threshold for lowered with flows occurring surplus heat flux regions caused conditions. Despite suppression layer, rapid rotation favors penetration rolls smaller wavelengths. boundary enhance such axial laterally varying penetrative extent resulting clustered structure case. With both imposed, overstable modes favored low Prandtl numbers, regime which relevant rotation, novel mode traveling wave instability occurs convection, propagation direction controlled gradients boundary. oscillatory suppressed imposition indicated significant lowering transition number.

Three-Dimensional Boundary Layer Flow and Heat Transfer of a Dusty Fluid Towards a Stretching Sheet with Convective Boundary Conditions
The steady three-dimensional boundary layer flow and heat transfer of a dusty fluid towards a stretching sheet with convective boundary conditions is investigated by using similarity solution approach. The free stream along z-direction impinges on the stretching sheet to produce a flow with different velocity components. The governing equations are reduced into ordinary differential equations b...
متن کاملConvective and absolute instabilities in the boundary layer over rotating spheres with surface mass flux and incident axial flow
We consider the effect of surface mass flux and forced axial flow on the boundary-layer flows over rotating spheres, with a view to establishing flow-control mechanisms for rotating flows of engineering significance. A theoretical study is presented which considers the onset of convective instability modes (both stationary and travelling relative to the rotating surface) and local absolute inst...
متن کاملRevisiting Surface Heat-Flux and Temperature Boundary Conditions in Models of Stably Stratified Boundary-Layer Flows
Two formulations of the surface thermal boundary condition commonly employed in numericalmodelling of atmospheric stably stratified surface-layer flows are evaluated using analytical considerations and observational data from the Cabauw site in the Netherlands. The first condition is stated in terms of the surface heat flux and the second is stated in terms of the vertical potential temperature...
متن کاملThe Convective Instability of Boundary-layer Flows over Rotating Spheroids
The continuous development of spinning projectiles and other industrial applications has led to the need to understand the laminar boundary-layer flow and subsequent onset of transition over the general family of rotating spheroids. We begin by finding the laminar boundary-layer flow over a general spheroid. In particular, we distinguish between prolate and oblate spheroids and use an appropria...
متن کاملExcitation of Surface Waves Due to Thermocapillary Effects on a Stably Stratified Fluid Layer
In chemical engineering applications, the operation of condensers and evaporators can be made more efficient by exploiting the transport properties of interfacial waves excited on the interface between a hot vapor overlying a colder liquid. Linear theory for the onset of instabilities due to heating a thin layer from above is computed for the Marangoni–Bénard problem. Symbolic computation in th...
